Thanksgiving ~ the art of giving thanks

Luke made these cute turkeys!
with a little help ; )

Can you tell that little turkey
was as proud as a peacock
over his chocolate gobbler?

Sam was feeling creative, too.

Handprint Turkeys!

I put my amateur cooking skills to work and made a little something, too....

~my Grandma Simmons' pumpkin pie recipe~

As I spent the morning preparing our Thanksgiving feast, my sweet man made good use of his time.  He dug the Christmas tree out of storage and assembled that10 feet of make-believe timber.  It actually fell 'bout the time he had it erected.
Would have loved to catch that moment on camera...

After lunch the boys decorated the tree as I snapped pics from the sofa.

Can you see the excitement in Luke's eyes?
The boy LOVES Christmas decorations!

And Star Wars.

By the look in his eye,
you can see Sam was in a mischievous mood...

and a little grumpy...                      with some episodes of happy...

but mostly just plum sweet.

Afterwards I made pumpkin smoothies (a recipe from the Pioneer Woman). :)

Thankful for my sweet, sweet man.

Thankful for my boys.

Thankful for 7½ years with Lydia.

Thankful she's in Heaven.

Thankful for Jesus' perfect love for us ~ a love that made the ultimate sacrifice so we can spend Eternity with Him.

Thankful for this trial that has taught and continues to teach me innumerable lessons.

Thankful for His Word that brings healing to this broken momma-heart.

Thankful for a great crowd of folks who continue to encourage and love us as we walk this difficult path.

Thankful for His blanket of comfort.

Thankful for new mercies every morning.

Simply ~ Thankful.

Oh give thanks to the LORD,
for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever!

Psalm 107:1

  1. I thought about you often today. . . especially as I was dishing out that yummy cranberry sauce from McAlister's deli! As we hung several glittery birds on our tree today, Cade said it was so we can remember to pray for Lydia Byrd's family. . . yes indeed! So thankful to call you friend. Love you!

  2. Wonderful post. Your words and your faith continue to bless us and challenge us. Two hours was not nearly enough yesterday. The first thing Jack said in the car was, "That was fun!" Enough said.

  7. Great post once again! I so enjoy taking a peek inside your nest. So thankful to have you as a friend! I really wished I could have been a fly on the wall when the tree came a tumblin' down...LOL. I am glad the boys had a great time decorating it and I admit...that smoothie looked AWESOME! I am thinking the Briley Bistro needs to put that on the menu sometime!! <3
